I read a quote the other day.

“What keeps people stuck isn’t what they don’t know. It’s what they’re not doing.”

Oof. Kind of a gut punch, but I appreciate those from time to time.

So anyway, I was mulling that around, and then we went camping. (Well, actually glamping because if you know me, I don’t really camp. 😂)

There, our nephew’s son was playing with his dump truck.

He kept driving this little dump truck around, filling it with rocks and water and stuff, and then dumping it out.

Over and over and over again. For hours.

And I thought, how often do we need to do that?

(Not crawling on the ground playing with dump trucks, though there’s something to be said for that too.)

(⬇️ Btw, you can watch instead of reading, or read on below. ⬇️)

How often do our lives get super full, and that makes us get stuck because of what we’re not doing? Because of what we’re not dumping out?

If the truck had gotten too full, he wouldn’t have been able to push it anymore. (Stuck.)

Or stuff would fall out and get left behind. (Lost control.)

When our brains get too full, we can’t continue to push through. We get stuck. Or we lose control and things go flying. Or both.

So what keeps us stuck isn’t what we don’t know. (Usually, we already know way too much. 😂) It’s what we’re not doing.

Have you ever “should” yourself to death?

“I ‘should’ be doing this, and I ‘should’ be do that.”

That’s the pesky thinking / knowing part of “What keeps people stuck isn’t what they don’t know. It’s what they’re not doing.”

What we really need is to take action.

Stop Thinking, Start Doing

Doing is the best teacher. (Like my nephew’s son, perfecting the art of dumptrucking over and over again for hours.)

And if you’re paralyzed because there’s just so much?

Again, another cue from my nephew’s son. (Aren’t kids the best teachers?) Dump it out.

Do a brain dump, and get everything that’s in your brain out onto a piece of paper.

And then go back and identify the real priorities.

Maybe rank using an A, B or C priority.

Or maybe on a scale of 1 to 10, rank how important each thing is right now.

And that’s going to help your action steps materialize right before your eyes. You’ll see what you need to take action on today, and what can wait.

By dumping out the stuff clogging our brains and lives, we can regain control and make space to pick new things up (or not).

So what are some areas you’re going to “get doing” or brain dump on?

If there’s anywhere you’re stuck and need to talk about, let’s hop on a call and do that.

Love that we’re doing life together,

Dawn
