That time a building made me cry

You may have heard...

"If nothing changes, nothing changes. If you keep doing what you're doing, you're going to keep getting what you're getting."

Courtney Stephens wrote that in her book The Lies About Truth. She follows it up with:

"If you want change, make some."

With that in mind, here's a little story about my life 7 years ago.

It was a weekday around 4:30p, and I'd gotten to take off early to enjoy some quality IKEA-time with our then-teenage daughter. (Something we loved to do together.)

As we were driving home after a wonderful time, we went past the building where I used to work.

And it made me cry.

(⬇️ Btw, you can watch instead of reading, or read on below. ⬇️)

That time a building made me cry (and what it means for you)

Because here I was, 4:30 in the afternoon on a workday, enjoying time with my daughter.

And that building represented a BIG contrast in the way things used to be.

So often (too often) I’d be in that building til 8 or 9 o’clock at night.

And then I’d show back up on weekends to get things done I couldn’t get done during the week.

Sure, I remember lots of winning moments and fun times.

But I also remember the late night pizza I’d order and eat (ALONE).

I remember the tense text messages and phone calls I’d have with family…

“Listen, I just have to get this done. I just need a little more time.”

So as I was driving past after a wonderful afternoon, I realized…

This was something I loved from my past. But it was also something that held me hostage and kept me and my family from living our best life. From doing more important things.

And now, more than 7 years later…

💪 I’m looking at a healthier version of myself.

💪 I’m looking at a healthier version of my family.

💪 I’m enjoying more free time, and time to get away out of town.

💪 AND…my professional career is at an all-time high.

And it’s all possible because of change.

Because as Courtney says, “If nothing changes, nothing changes.”

Without change, I could still be back there.

So I’ve been looking at doing something for everyone doing life with me. I care about you living a better life than your past self too!

Wonder if you’ll ever get there?

Here’s a quick test, ask yourself these 3 questions…

  1. Do I have a vision for where I wanna be? And when I’ll get there?
  2. Are my daily activities propelling me toward my end goal?
  3. Are people supporting me in reaching my vision? (Like, really supporting you, by calling out when you’re straying?)

Maybe you’re a yes to one question. Maybe even two. But for most people honest with themselves, the answer is no, no & no.

So on Tuesday August 20th, from 9:00a-12:00p, I’m hosting an Elements of Momentum class at the Undivided Experience Center in Chesterfield.

It’s about figuring out the life you want, and doing more to get there in 12 weeks than most people do in 12 months.

AND it’s focused on all areas of your life - personal and professional.

I’ll be walking you through some practical ways to wrap your arms around what you want. And then figure out how to make it actually happen for you.

We’re figuring out the what, who and how of it all.

7 years from now you could be looking back relieved you “wanted changed, and made some.”

Hope to do life with you live and in-person!

Have a blessed day,

Dawn

PS - If this isn’t for you but you know it could be for someone else, please be their mortar and forward this on to them!

My clumsy gardening taught me an interesting life lesson
Feel like your life's running wild? I have this beautiful clematis that my sister-in-love gave to me years ago. It makes me feel pretty successful because for those who know me, I enjoy the outdoors now, but that took a lot of work. So bear in mind that keeping plants alive isn't really my strong point. Here's the lesson I've learned though (actually, there are a few takeaways here): (⬇️ ...
Mindless routines can leave you empty-handed
I don't know who needs to hear this today, but life usually doesn't come with warnings.   This realization came into view when I went to walk my sweet little puppy Gunny the other morning.   ...As an aside, I have a lot of habit stacks in the morning that get me from point A to point B without having to do a lot of thinking...   So since weather can be so changeable, I have rolls of, well, po...
Are you wandering in the woods?
Sometimes we lose sight of the paths in our life. We might be close to the path we're supposed to be on...or want to be on. But as anyone who's ever gone hiking knows, being close to the right path still means we're not on it. So what happens? We find ourselves just kinda wandering in the woods. And while it might be beautiful, and you might even be enjoying it somewhat... ...you're still g...
