A funny thing happened the day I was set to record a video for the first issue (the one you’re reading right now!) of my Do Life Together newsletter.
That morning, I was listening to a podcast. It was one my friends had started years ago. They had stopped for a few years, and it was their first day back.
I love it because they record live and don’t edit. They just put it all out there, unfiltered.
I was nervous about recording my own video, but realized if they can put themselves out there like that (I cannot even imagine 😂), then I can too, right?
(⬇️ By the way, here it is if you wanna watch instead of reading ⬇️)
So as I was chewing on all this while listening to their podcast, they said something that drove it home:
“Change is inevitable, but growth is intentional.”
And I was like, “Ohh, I needed to hear that.”
In fact, I had to back it up. I was listening on 2x speed like I always do with podcasts. But I thought “No, no, no. I need to slow that down. I need to hear that again.”
“Change is inevitable, but growth is intentional.”
Okay. Yes! That resonates with my spirit.
Let’s talk about change…and intentionality.
I’m so grateful to have people ahead of me like Matt and Maria Granados, who said that on their podcast the morning I needed to hear it most.
I love doing life with people (hence the name of the newsletter).
🌱 Some people are ahead of me. And I’m so thankful for having them there. Modeling for me. Encouraging me. Helping me. I love where they’re at. I want to be there. I can see myself growing into that spot.
🤝 There are also people I can turn around to. I can put my hand back and say “Hey! Listen, I’ve been where you are. And I totally messed it up. So I have some great things to help you do it differently now.” Giving them a hand to bring them up to the next level.
I’m not the first (or even the second) to say it…
That same week I was creating my first newsletter issue, my church was talking about when Jesus told Simon Peter:
(my paraphrasing of course 😂)
“Hey, you’re going to totally jack this up and do it wrong. But when you return, after you’ve done it all wrong, turn around and tell your brothers. Help your brothers.”
So I’m saying to you today—just like when I was out here recording my first video which made me so uncomfortable—I want you to do the same:
In fact, I’m sending out this first newsletter issue in posterity to each and every new subscriber going forward. As a testament to getting uncomfortable, intentional, and helping you—and others behind you—grow.
Share from the reservoir of all the things you’ve done. Even (especially?) the things you haven’t done great. Turn around and help someone else up to where they want to go.
Help them even go past you. How exciting is it when we get to do that?
If we just started doing life together, my name is Dawn Baumgartner. I love what I get to do, helping people grow and change in the areas of business and health and life.
See you next time!
Dawn
PS – I would love to hear how this showed up in your life. Where are you being intentional with your growth? Or where do you intend to be intentional with your growth? Let me know!
